Renee Zellweger is an ambitious New York writer who, at the
request of her father (William Hurt), moves back home to care for her cancer-stricken
mother (Meryl Streep). Co-starring Tom Everett Scott, Lauren Graham and Nicky Katt. Based
on Anna Quindlen's novel.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Sexual innuendo and some kissing. In two scenes, we see a
woman's bare back while she's in a bathtub.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - No violence or gore, but we do see a woman's body waste
away due to cancer.
PROFANITY 6 - About 7 F-words and several scatological references, mild
obscenities and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Family relationships, being a homemaker, cancer, drinking,
ambition, love.
MESSAGE - A mother's work, love and sacrifices for her family can easily be
taken for granted.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
