A group of twelve-year-old girls make a promise to always be there for each other and as adults honor that pact when one has a baby.

SEX/NUDITY 2 - Some sexual references, a kiss, a group of boys are discovered skinny-dipping; we see their buttocks in an extended scene. A young girl stands in front of her mirror in bra and pants.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Tussles and fistfights (resulting in a bloody nose). Some blood during a childbirth scene. A young girl nearly drowns in a storm drain. The girls are scared during a couple of seances. A young girl pretends to drown and thus upsets her friends.

PROFANITY 4 - One garbled and one clear F-word derivative, many scatological references, some mild obscenities, a couple of anatomical references. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Divorce, Vietnam, the '70s, normality & unhappiness, stardom & ambition, loss of parent.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.

INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
