Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A recently-dumped woman and a plumber who wants to be a
marine biologist seem to be the perfect match but always miss opportunities to meet each
other. With Hope Davis, Alan Gelfant, Philip Seymour Hoffman, H. Jon Benjamin, Cara Buono,
Sam Seder, Holland Taylor, José Zuniga, Robert Stanton, Callie Thorne, Larry Gilliard
Jr., Jason Lewis, Roger Rees, Victor Argo, Lyn Vaus, Ken Cheeseman and Bronwyn Sims.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Lots of sexual innuendo (including references to
homosexuality). Several passionate kisses. A woman strokes a man's clothed thigh; a man
briefly fondles a woman's clothed breast as they're kissing. In a classroom, we see a
drawing of a male fish's sexual organ (there's also some discussion of how fish
reproduce). We see a woman in a bra and a woman wearing a T-shirt and panties.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - Several men are involved in a scuffle. A woman lightly
hits a man. We hear a couple arguing loudly, then some glass breaking. We see bloody water
in a fish tank.

PROFANITY 6 - 3 spoken F-words and 2 mouthed F-words, several anatomical
references, many scatological references, many mild obscenities and several insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Rejection, death of a parent, ambition, crime organizations,
activists, homosexuality, lying, dating, being single, personal ads.
MESSAGE - Finding Mr. or Ms. Right could be a matter of meeting someone
who's been right next to you all along.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
