Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Sequel to the original, with a twist: the neophyte karateka
is a girl.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - One very chaste kiss. A man makes sexual threats toward a
female character.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - Lots of fist fights and karate fights (no blood is shown
and nobody is killed). Some of these fights are very disturbing nonetheless. One scene
depicts a teacher/coach punching students in the nose and stomach. Also, a fight in which
one student is severely beaten by a group of five others (including the abusive teacher).
In this fight the teacher actually tells the others to "finish him off." Four
karate-type fights involving kicks and punches (some in slow motion). There is also a
frightening scene in which a couple are in a car and a man smashes all the windows around
them. In another scene the car is blown up. Also a very scary chase scene with the
implication that if the victim is caught, she will be raped. There are a lot of sexual
threats made.

PROFANITY 3 - Several anatomical references and sexual innuendo. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Power, control, attempted murder, sex (implied), grief.
MESSAGE - Grief held too close turns to anger. Trust in yourself.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
