MPAA Rating: PG

Based on the 1899 newsboys' strike in New York City, the film touches on the subjects of child labor and unionism.

SEX/NUDITY 1 - None. There is an innocent romance between the lead character and the sister of his best friend that ends in a rather passionate (for Disney) kiss. Ann-Margaret is a sexy vaudeville singer, but seems more garish than sensual.

VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A couple of fist fights, Disney-style: No gore.

PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Working conditions for minors at the turn of the century, unionism, strikes.

MESSAGE - You should stand up for your rights and if you band together you can fight even a bigger power.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
