Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey are two top-notch police
negotiators pitted against each other.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Kissing and sexual innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Threatening with guns in some scenes and several scenes of
gunfire: A man is shot in the shoulder (some blood), a man is shot in the arm (some
blood), a man is shot in the side and his hand is bloody from holding the wound, a man is
shot in the leg, a man is shot in the head with blood splattering onto a windshield, and a
man is shot a few times in the chest with blood seeping out of the wound (we see the last
two scenes several times). A man is hit on the head. There are some explosions and fires,
especially during a commando raid. Blood is seen on a floor. A man puts a gun to his own
neck.

PROFANITY 8 - About 88 F-words, many mild obscenities and scatological
references, and some anatomical terms. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Law enforcement, hostage negotiation, being framed.
MESSAGE - You must do everything you can to clear your name.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
