ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Recently dead teen comes back as a zombie, dead-set on
taking the town belle to the prom.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Several passionate kisses and some cleavage. Lust, virginity
and seduction are the main themes. There is one sex scene with a teen couple (in
underwear) simulating sex in front of a cheering crowd. Many sexual and anatomically
explicit references, and many double entendres.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - Lots of gross-out stuff. The teen zombie keeps losing body
parts: we see his ear fall off while a girl is kissing it; his nose flies off when he
sneezes; his arm is pulled off and his leg drops off; also we "hear" his private
parts hit the floor. A teen dies when he plants an axe in his own head. The zombie eats
his stomach, off screen (but we hear slurps and see his bloody face); he also eats a man
until he's a talking head on a skeleton. A teen is shot in the chest repeatedly.
PROFANITY 3 - Several scatological and anatomical terms, name calling and
cussing. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Necrophilia, lust, love, obsession, robbery, death, zombies,
cannibalism, prejudice.
MESSAGE - Love can conquer death, but with side-effects.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
