ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Toni Colette is Muriel, a woman whose only goal in life is
to be a beautiful bride.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Some graphic talk about sex. A couple has sex in a bathroom
(their clothes are on but there is a great deal of thrusting and moaning; the scene is
brief). A woman is in bed with two men, although we don't see anything, we do hear moans
and the bed squeaking. We see the naked behinds of two men. A man is shown bare chested,
apparently after having had sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A lot of taunting and screaming. A woman hits her son on
the head and shoulders and screams at him. A man is shoved out of a plate glass window but
no one is hurt and a pair of women pummel each other.
PROFANITY 5 - Three F-words, one scatological term and a handful of mild
obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Brides and weddings, finding your true love, leaving home,
cancer.
MESSAGE - You must be true to yourself.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
