ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Kenneth Branagh does Shakespeare again: this time it's a
bawdy comedy where love and lust are the subjects and deceit fuels the plot. Branagh also
stars, with Emma Thompson, Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton and Keanu Reeves as the cast.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - In one scene where men and women are bathing, we see a lot of
naked back sides. Many sexual innuendos and one sex scene on a balcony, but the
participants are clothed.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - There is one character, Dogberry, who pokes his sidekick's
eyes and punches him repeatedly. Also prisoners are seen with blood coming from their
mouths. Some pushing and shoving and throwing things around, but no punching.
PROFANITY 3 - Some cussing and a few insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Sexual deceit, lying, jealousy, murder.
MESSAGE - Deceit is a double-edged sword. It may work out for the better or
it may do irreparable harm. Love conquers all.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
