ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Based on the true story of Queen Victoria and the special
friendship she shared with servant John Brown. Dame Judi Dench and Billy Connolly star.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - A man and woman kiss each other's hands. Two naked men,
seen from the side and back, run into the ocean.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A man fires a shot into the woods. A man waving a gun runs
toward a group of people (we later learn the gun was fake). A man dies peacefully in his
bed. A group of men punch and kick a man; we see his bloody face right after he's
been beaten, and the next day we see his bruised and cut face and torso. Many shots are
fired at an animal, and although nothing else is shown, it's suggested that the
animal was killed.
PROFANITY 1 - A couple anatomical references, one scatological reference and
one mild obscenity. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Grieving the death of a spouse, the British monarchy,
forbidden love, loyalty.
MESSAGE - Love and loyalty can transcend class boundaries.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
