ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Jamie Lee Curtis plays a psychopath who comes back to her
family in order to torment everybody.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - There's a brief scene of heavy petting where both parties
remain clothed. In another scene, the two are about to have sex, and she tears her jacket
off: while there's no nudity, there's a lot of lewd kissing and several closeup shots of
breasts jammed into a slinky bra. We later see a brief shot of a woman's bare breast. In
another scene, a woman is shown bathing and she stands up to reveal herself to her
12-year-old son -- the audience gets an extreme close up of her bare backside.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A woman mutilates herself in several very bloody scenes,
with broken glass and other household objects. A woman falls down a flight of stairs and
ends up bloody. A young boy falls on a broken glass and a shard stabs him in the chest. A
dog is hit by a car.
PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, and a handful of scatological and anatomical
references and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Suicide, divorce, sexual abuse, self-mutilation, abandonment.
MESSAGE - There's no such thing as an instant family; you have to build one
over time with love and trust.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
