ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Tom Cruise stars in this big-screen adaptation of the
television series.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Nuzzling (kissing necks and cheeks).
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A fiery explosion, an explosion of glass, a man's torso
and hands are bloody, a man is skewered through the eyes, a man and woman are splattered
with blood, a man's chest has blood on it, a bloody knife which results in Cruise having
bloody hands, (everything mentioned up to here is shown again later in the film in
flashback). People are threatened with guns, people are shot, people are beaten up, a high
speed chase between a helicopter and train has Cruise and others tossed about and almost
killed.
PROFANITY 3 - Some mild obscenities, a couple of anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Espionage, betrayal, revenge.
MESSAGE - You can't even trust your friends; espionage is risky business.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
