Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
Hostage negotiator Eddie Murphy wants to get a jewel thief
after the thief kills his friend.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo, kissing (sometimes passionate). A photo of a
bare-breasted woman with a man's hands covering her breasts; we briefly see some
bare-breasted women, and women wearing thong bathing suits and a woman is seen in a bra.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Car chases. People are shot with guns in some scenes with
bloody wounds (blood on a man's chest, blood sprays from a man's arm when he's shot and it
splatters). A man has blood on his torso and head from bullet to the head and a man's leg
is bloody. A man is stabbed many times with a knife and has his throat slit (there's a lot
of blood). A few "jump" scenes: a man is attacked, dogs jump out at people. A
cut-off, bloody ear is shown. Threatening with guns, threatening with knives and attempted
stabbings. People are beaten in a few fights with some blood on faces/heads (with punches,
by throwing each other around and hitting objects and walls; some vicious kicks). A woman
is hit in the head with a gun. Many bodies lie dead on a floor. A person is thrown from a
cable car. A man tries to run over another man with his car and a man is hit by a car. A
man tries to strangle a woman. Explosions.

loved ones.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
