ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Jason Scott Lee stars as an Eskimo who ends up in the
British air-force, in 1944. Patrick Bergin co-stars.
SEX/NUDITY 6 - There's one brief scene of a frontally naked boy standing in
a bathtub. A couple of pictures in a medical book of female and male sexual organs.
There's one scene where a couple is making love on top of a balloon, with upper body
nudity and passionate groping and kissing.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - An Eskimo boy is shown eating a seal's raw heart, after
killing it. There's a scuffle between a boy and a girl, with some punching and shoving. A
man hacks off the arm of one of two men who are found dead and frozen in the Arctic ice.
Since the arm is frozen there's no blood. There are scenes of aerial bombing, with dead,
bloody soldiers and burning buildings. Two people are drowned in frigid waters.
PROFANITY 5 - 4 F-words and just a few other scatological terms used. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Lifelong love, violent death, tradition vs. modernity,
racism, disease, alcoholism.
MESSAGE - Don't run from your feelings, be proud of your heritage. The world
can often be a cruel place.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
