ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

A disfigured former teacher (Mel Gibson) and a troubled boy
(Nick Stahl) discover a bond that gives them both peace.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Long kissing scene between Stahl's mother and her boyfriend.
A few discussions about adults molesting young boys, but nothing too graphic is mentioned.
Stahl's sister and her boyfriend are in bed and we briefly see them kissing.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A couple of fights between teens with slaps and punches,
but no blood or serious injuries. In one scene we see Gibson's severely scarred torso.
PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, three scatological terms and some mild
name-calling. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Child molestation, abusive parents, disability and
disfigurement, intolerance of anyone who's different.
MESSAGE - We can't live without love; trust is important in a relationship;
people with disabilities are just like anyone else.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
