Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Damon Wayans stars as a Marine who must whip some boys into
shape and help them win their Junior ROTC championship.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Two kisses between a man and his girlfriend.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Some of the violence and gore here are played for laughs.
There is a war scene with explosions: A man has a bleeding chest and another breaks his
finger (crooked finger shown). A man puts a gun to a man's back and crotch. A man cooks
and almost eats a rat. A man slaps another man a few times across the face, kicks a window
and hurts himself. A man taunts and berates his ROTC members, with a few scenes of boys
pummeling each other (after one scene a boy is shown with a black eye and blood on his
lip). Some graphic descriptions of wartime violence. A parent slaps his son across the
face. A gun is fired a few times (but not at anyone). A man daydreams about hitting and
throwing an aggressor into a kiddie pool.

PROFANITY 3 - About seven scatological terms, many milder obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The military life, killing pursuant to military order.
MESSAGE - Once you start something, you should always follow through,
especially if others are counting on you.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
