|
|

The film touches on a little-known aspect of recent
history-women in professional baseball during World War II. Two sisters are torn by their
love for each other and the fierce competition between them.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - No nudity. No sex. Women are given sexy uniforms and
encouraged to play to the camera to win publicity for the team. One character talks about
her sexual exploits. Some crotch scratching (within the context of baseball).
VIOLENCE/GORE 0 - No violence.
PROFANITY 2 - Some four-letter words, especially in the dugout scenes. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The coach is drunk often at the beginning of the film.
There's some sexual innuendo and a very long comic scene of the coach relieving himself.
Sexism and the stereotyping of women is a major focus.
MESSAGE - Women can play ball-or do anything else they want-as well as men.
If you want something hard enough, and work at it you'll get it.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
