The film follows a strong-willed high school senior (Saoirse Ronan) during the 2002-03 school year, as she struggles with her overbearing mother (Laurie Metcalf) and other people in her life. Also with Jordan Rodrigues, Tracy Letts, Beanie Feldstein and Stephen Henderson. Directed by Greta Gerwig. [1:33]

SEX/NUDITY 6 - A teen boy and a teen girl kiss in bed (he is bare-chested and she is wearing bra that reveals cleavage and abdomen); the boy puts on a condom and the girl thrusts on top of him briefly before he concludes the encounter (he moans).
 A teen boy and a teen girl kiss passionately, slam into a wall and a door and go into a bedroom where they continue to kiss seated on an armchair; they both say that they haven't had sex yet as the scene ends. A teen boy and a teen girl flirt and kiss. A teen girl opens a bathroom stall door and finds her boyfriend kissing another teen boy.  A teen boy and a teen girl trace each other's faces, hug and lie on the ground. A young man touches his girlfriend's face tenderly. A teen boy and a teen girl hug tightly as he cries. Two teen girls dance together and hug at a school dance.
 A teen girl wears a sweater that is low-cut in the back and we see her bare back. A teenage girl wears a towel wrapped around her and we see cleavage and bare shoulders. Two teenage girls wear swimsuits that reveal cleavage, bare abdomens and bare legs. A teen girl wears a bra and underwear with a large button shirt open to reveal her underwear, cleavage, abdomen and legs. Teen girls wear low-cut dresses at a school dance (cleavage and bare shoulders are seen). A teen girl buys a Playgirl magazine and looks at it (we do not see any nudity). We see a photograph of developing fetuses.
 A teen girl tells a teen boy that he can touch her breasts and he says that he respects her too much to do that. A teen girl talks about the first time she had sex and that she was interrupted by a phone call from her mother telling her that her great aunt had died. A teenage girl asks her mother when she thinks it's a good time to have sex. Two teenage girls talk about using shower sprayers to masturbate. A wife asks her husband, "Do you think Miguel and Shelly have sex on the couch?" speaking of her son and his girlfriend. A teen girl says that it is normal to touch a boy's genitals. A young man calls to his teenage sister and says, "Your lover awaits." A young woman talks about her parents freaking out about premarital sex and that a woman was kind and took her in. A teen girl is reprimanded by a nun for wearing her skirt too short. Two teen girls put a sign and streamers on the back of a nun's car that reads, "Just Married to Jesus."
 A teen boy says that he is so ashamed of being gay. There is a mention of California hedonism. A teenage boy identifies himself as Irish Catholic and explains that that is why his family is so large. After having sex with a teen boy a teen girl says, "We aren't virgins anymore." A teen girl yells at a teen boy, "I was on top." A teen boy talks about having had sex with maybe 5 or 6 girls.
 A teenage girl appears to be smitten with a teacher. Teenage boys and teenage girls dance close together at a school dance; when they stand too close a nun says, "Six inches for the holy spirit."

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A teenage girl jumps out of a car while it is moving and we see her later with a cast on her arm. A teenage boy talks on his cellphone while driving a car.
 We hear about someone committing suicide by overdosing. A woman and her teenage daughter argue bitterly in several scenes and the encounters frequently end with the mother making disparaging remarks about her daughter's intelligence and abilities. Two teenage girls argue bitterly. A young man and his teenage sister argue in several scenes. A woman says, "My mother was an abusive alcoholic." A woman tells her teen daughter that her father is depressed and has been taking medication for years. We hear that a man loses his job. A teenage girl and her mother listen to "Grapes of Wrath" on tape and cry at the end. A teen boy talks about his father dying of cancer. A woman talks about her mother deciding not to have an abortion at the age of 15 and that she was the resulting child. A teen girl talks about wishing that she had an eating disorder. A teen girl says, "Some people aren't built happy." A teen girl asks a teen boy if he believes in God and he says, "No, because it's ridiculous."
 A teenage girl steals a grade book from a teacher's room. A teenage girl is suspended from high school after talking in a derogatory manner to a speaker at an assembly.
 A teen girl vomits (we do not see goo) after drinking too much and we see her in the hospital sleeping it off. Two teenage girls are shown eating multiple communion wafers and another girl reprimands them.

PROFANITY 6 - About 16 F-words (1 written on a teen girl's arm cast), 5 sexual references, 10 scatological terms, 6 anatomical terms, 5 mild obscenities, name-calling (passive aggressive, stupid, weird, jealous, racist, evil, soul-killing), exclamations (jeez, shut-up), 8 religious exclamations (e.g. Jesus, Thank God, Jesus Christ, Oh God, Oh My God, Holy [scatological term deleted]). SUBSTANCE USE - We hear about someone overdosing and dying, we see a prescription drug vial that contains capsules that we understand are for a man's depression, and two teen boys and two teen girls appear to be smoking marijuana on a sidewalk and later act under the influence (one girl says, "I can't feel my arms"). Many teenage boys and teenage girls at a house party are shown holding and drinking alcoholic beverages, teenage boys and teenage girls hold beverage glasses with stage alcohol in them in a scene during a school play, a teen girl drinks from a bottle of alcohol at a party, and a teen girl says that all the Irish girls got smashed at school (it's St. Patrick's Day). A young woman smokes a clove cigarette outside her boyfriend's house and shares it with a teen girl, a teen boy talks about smoking only hand rolled cigarettes, a teenage boy smokes a cigarette at a café, a teen girl buys a pack of cigarettes and smokes one outside the store, and a teen boy smokes outside by a swimming pool.
