A dysfunctional family must come to terms with family and
personal issues when the father dies and they have to plan his funeral. With LL Cool J,
Jada Pinkett, Vivica A. Fox, Loretta Devine, Anthony Anderson, Toni Braxton, Cedric the
Entertainer, Darius McCrary and Whoopi Goldberg. [1:35]
SEX/NUDITY 2 - We see a man in boxer shorts asleep in bed. We see a couple
in bed holding each other; the man is shirtless. A woman in a cleavage-revealing top jumps
on a man and pushes him on a bed and they begin to kiss. Talk of two people having sex in
a car in a parking lot; talk about an extramarital affair.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A man dies of a stroke while at the kitchen table. A man
puts a gun to a woman's head. A man punches another man in the gut, and a man chokes
another man. A woman begins to climb into a casket (with a corpse in it) but is stopped. A
woman slaps a man in the face, and a woman throws a drink in a man's face. Reckless
driving. We see a man sitting on a toilet. Several instances of flatulence.
PROFANITY 4 - Some anatomical references, a few scatological references,
several mild obscenities, some religious profanities, several insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Infidelity, death, family, alcoholism, loss of parent,
loss of husband, miscarriage.
MESSAGE - Family affairs aren't always easy but love and understanding are
necessary to make families work.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
