A wealthy businessman (Richard Attenborough) creates ultimate theme park: an island that complete with genetically engineered dinosaurs. Three scientists (Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum) and two children (Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello) are invited to experience the park before the grand opening but the ancient lizards get loose and start dining on the visitors. Also with Samuel L. Jackson, BD Wong, Bob Peck and Wayne Knight. Directed by Steven Spielberg. [2:07]
SEX/NUDITY 2 - A man and a woman embrace briefly twice.
► A man tells a woman that he cannot believe that she is unaware of the mathematical concept of attraction; she smiles and looks away. A man states that he has three kids and is occasionally married. An attorney asks a park owner if the animals are autoerotic; the owner stares at him and replies that there are no animatronics.
► A computer screen saver seen twice includes the torso of a shapely woman wearing a zebra-patterned bikini (cleavage, bare abdomen, shoulders and legs are shown). A close-up shot is filled with the buttocks of a woman wearing short shorts that reveal the tops of her bare thighs. An overweight man is seen shirtless. A man wears an open shirt that bares his full chest.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - The walls of an outhouse fall away as a man sits on a closed toilet; a T-Rex confronts him at close range, swallows him up to the waist and shakes him dead. Several men with rifles and tasers accept a crate containing a T-Rex that snarls and screeches as it pulls one man halfway around a corner of the crate by the legs; the man screams several times and then goes limp (presumably dead) while another man shouts to shoot the animal.
► A man with an elephant gun tracks a T-Rex and three velociraptors attack and kill the man off screen; we hear screeches. A man steals 15 dinosaur embryos and drives a Jeep haphazardly through a storm; he is stopped when he runs onto a large downed limb and then killed by an escaped dilophosaurus inside his jeep after the animal spits green-black venom all over his face (the jeep rocks significantly, as we hear the animal scream and gnash its teeth).
► A T-Rex attacks two tour vehicles during a violent rain storm, smashing the glass out, turning them upside down, smashing them and chewing on the tires; black sludge fills the vehicles and two children in the vehicles scream for several minutes, but two men light flares and distract the T-Rex away (one man suffers a torn lower leg that we see bandaged and bloody and later is covered with a leg brace).
► A T-Rex with long teeth tears a gallimimus raptor apart and we hear screeching and yelping as we see strips of flesh and blood. The bloody severed arm of a park staff person, presumably killed by a dinosaur, falls onto the shoulder of a woman and she screams. A bloody dismembered goat leg falls on the sunroof of a tour vehicle in the park; the goat had been left as food for a dinosaur. A steer is lowered into a T-Rex paddock on a sling to feed the dinosaur; plants thrash and we hear snarling, screeching and gnashing, followed by the sling being raised in an empty and shredded condition. Several people come out of a ceiling opening and fall onto a large dinosaur skeleton, that breaks apart and sends them unhurt to the floor; velociraptors encircle the people, until a T-Rex charges in and chews up two of the smaller raptors as the people escape to jeeps outside and drive away.
► A boy and a girl become trapped in a park's kitchen by two velociraptors that hunt them for food; one raptor becomes confused after a long chase and rams its head into a stainless steel wall, knocking itself out; after another chase and some screaming, the boy and girl lock the other animal into a freezer. A T-Rex chases three people in an escaping jeep, but does not catch them. Velociraptors chase people through scenes in computer rooms, breaker-control rooms, laboratories, kitchens and a visitor's center. A man, a woman, a boy and a girl escape a group of velociraptors by climbing into the ceiling of a park's visitor's center, although the animals crash their heads through the ceiling grates and snap at the people.
► A boy is blown off a high voltage fence when the power switches on, he stops breathing and a man brings him back using CPR; the boy stumbles as he walks afterward and his hair is now wiry and sticking up. A man rescues a boy from a falling tour vehicle that goes over a wall when a dinosaur pushes it; the man and the boy climb down and the open sunroof section of the car covers them as the vehicle falls over them.
► Several people visit an island and finds the largest of ancient dinosaurs cloned and roaming free; they see brontosaurs, velociraptors, T-Rexes, pteranodons, triceratops, crested lizards and others; we see that the park is enclosed in 30-foot steel fences, electrified with 10,000 volts.
► An man uses a raptor claw fossil to trace the slashing targets of a velociraptor on a human body, using a boy as a volunteer while saying that the entrails will bleed but that the boy will be alive when the raptors eat him; the boy becomes wide-eyed and quiet and a woman tells the man that he should have just pulled a gun on the boy.
► A young girl in a tree trembles when a brontosaur eats leaves nearby and she stammers, "Veggie."
► In 3D close-ups, we see the large snapping teeth and claws of the meat eaters several times and we see a stampede of gallimimus raptors run toward the audience. We see a 6-inch raptor claw fossil in close-up twice.
► A tropical storm hits an island dinosaur park as the giant creatures knock over electric fences without being harmed. We hear several instances of loud snarling, shrieking, tooth gnashing and bellowing off screen from dinosaurs. Two scenes feature the loud pounding steps of a T-Rex in the background, shaking the ground and a puddle of water.
► A triceratops lies in a clearing on one side, panting, with its mouth crusty and its tongue covered in pustules; it is ill with an unknown malady (please see the Substance Use category for more details).
► A man, an older man, and a woman limp for much of the film, because of trip and fall injuries.
► We hear that a T-Rex killed 5 out of a group of 8 clones. A man states that playing with evolution is like a kid playing with his parent's gun; he states that artificially bringing dinosaurs back into the world is a rape of the natural world. A man tells his girlfriend that children and babies smell bad.
► A scientist searches through a 7-foot-tall pile of dung and finds evidence of a toxic plant. A sick dinosaur sneezes on a girl, covering her face and shoulders with slime. A scientist uses a long hypodermic needle to extract blood from a large mosquito encased in amber. A dinosaur egg hatches in a lab and the hatchling is shown covered in a red gelatinous substance. A boy reports throwing up twice, but we do not see it.
► An overweight man's workstation is littered a foot high all around the floor and adjacent desk areas with discarded food wrappers.
PROFANITY 4 - 3 scatological terms, 2 anatomical terms, 10 mild obscenities, name-calling (cheap, slob, crazy, bloodsucking, stupid), stereotypical references to scientists, businessmen, men, women, the obese, lawyers, geeks, 3 religious profanities, 4 religious exclamations. [profanity glossary]
SUBSTANCE USE - We hear that a sick dinosaur suffers after eating a toxic plant that acts as a drug, and a scientist reports that she gave an injured person a shot of Morphine. A man drinks from a flask and offers it to another man who declines, two men and a woman drink champagne, and three men have mixed drinks at their places at dinner (we do not see them drink). A man lights and smokes 5 cigarettes in different scenes.
