Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Sylvester Stallone is the law in this actioner based on the
popular comic.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - One kiss, one brief verbal sexual innuendo, and some cleavage
is exposed.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - A riot in the city results in explosions and fires, and
people rioting, vandalizing and shooting each other. People are shown riddled with
gunshots, screaming and dying, and some fall to their deaths. Two men are electrocuted.
One man is killed by a knife (we see the bloody knife exit his torso). Many fight scenes
with hits, kicks, punches and gunfire. A robot pulls a man's arms off (we only see a burst
of blood). Some men are shown deformed by scars and disabilities. We see a bloody corpse
roasting over a fire.

PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, one scatological reference and a handful of milder
obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Anarchy vs. social order, genetic engineering, imprisonment.
MESSAGE - Social order will only be ensured via strong law enforcement.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
