Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Urban drama about two brothers and their relationship with
their father. There's also a romantic subplot.
SEX/NUDITY 6 - There are three sex scenes, complete with groaning and
thrashing about. A woman is shown topless and a man's naked derriere is exposed. There is
an implied sex scene, during which sex takes place under a woman's skirt. There are lots
of sexual innuendos, and references, mostly to oral sex. One disturbing scene in which it
appears that a drunken character may be masturbating.
VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - A child shoots his father to stop him from attacking his
mother. One scene in which a character gives himself a "jailhouse tattoo" --
carves the name of a woman on his forearm with a knife (bloody). Several fist fights in
which faces are bloodied and characters spit up blood. Several people are shot to death.
One character is chained up, beaten and tortured, then slashed with a chain saw (lots of
blood).

PROFANITY 6 - The F-word and various forms of it are used frequently. Also
an assortment of scatological and anatomical terms. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
