ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Drama about a single father (Danny DeVito) trying to raise
his two young sons (Robert J. Steinmiller, Jr. and Miko Hughes). A dispute with a racist
neighbor threatens the family's safety and stability.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Two rather quick kisses between the prepubescent lead and his
same-age girlfriend.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - DeVito is the host of the late night horror movie and we
see him in gruesome makeup: in two scenes he sticks a meat cleaver in his head and it
spurts fake blood. A child finds his dead grandmother but we don't witness the discovery.
A boy is kidnapped and when returned, we see him slightly bruised in a hospital bed. A man
falls out of a tree into a pack of Dobermans, and while nothing is seen, we hear the dogs
growling and biting. There's a chase scene through a house, and two boys come to blows.
PROFANITY 2 - Ethnic slurs are mentioned three times, and some mild
profanity approximately four times. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The death of a parent, kidnapping, alcoholism, single
parenthood.
MESSAGE - You can get through anything with the help of a loving parent.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
