ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Comedy/drama with Larenz Tate as a poor black boy in the
seventies trying to unearth his manhood.
SEX/NUDITY 7 - A man's bare behind on a nude beach. A very obese fat woman
seen covering her private areas as she is ridiculed. Lots of making out and implied sex.
Many explicit sexual discussions between a father son. A few condom scenes.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A former Black Panther fights his Republican
brother-in-law on a tennis court. Falls into the category of Don Knotts violence.
PROFANITY 7 - F-words, lots of scatological language, anatomical references
and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Adultery, losing your virginity.
MESSAGE - If you are black and become rich in America, you're no longer
really black. Instead, you become soulless, immediately subscribe to The Wall Street
Journal and become an alcoholic. No one can be sixteen, male and a virgin-and still be
well-adjusted.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
