It is the 1950s, and archeology professor and adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), now older but not slower, is convinced by a young man (Shia LaBeouf) to follow clues discovered by an old colleague who has disappeared, and which may lead to a mythic South American city of gold. They are also pursued by ruthless KGB agents who have their own agenda. Also with Karen Allen, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent. Directed by Steven Spielberg. [2:04]

VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Several men are caught in the flames of a rocket as it launches (we see the men writhing in flames), and two other men are trapped on the front of the rocket as it speeds along the ground (they are disoriented but fine after it stops).
Several soldiers at a military compound are gunned down by armed intruders dressed as soldiers (we hear the gunshots, we see lifeless bodies on the ground and we later see the bodies, with bloody bullet holes in their clothing, being dragged in the background).
We hear gunshots then see many dead bodies with bloody bullet holes.
An atomic bomb explodes and we see the force of the blast blowing buildings and mannequins to dust: a man hides in a refrigerator, which is thrown a great distance and bounces along the ground (he gets out of the fridge with a bit of blood on his lip but is otherwise unharmed).
A man and a young man walk through a dark graveyard, thunder claps and lightning flashes, people wearing masks that look like skulls move in the shadows, and they attack the two, and there's kicking and punching; one blows a poison dart that misses the young man, and another dart is blown into the mouth of one of the attackers (we see the dart sticking out of his mouth with a bit of blood and he collapses to the ground).
A man fires a grenade at a vehicle that explodes and sends debris and two whirring blades through the air; the blades crash into a truck cutting the top of it in half (the passengers inside the truck are not injured). A woman in the back of a truck is thrown over the hood when the driver slams on the brakes, and she swings a gun mounted on the hood and begins shooting at the driver (no one is struck). Many people shoot at several other people while driving trucks through a thick forest.
A man holds a gun on many soldiers whose guns are pointed at him; one soldier is shot in the foot (we see a hole open in his boot) and others begin firing and running for cover. Many soldiers hold guns on four people.

A skull turns toward a woman, she stares into it, swirls of light begin to enter her eyes, her eyes begin to glow, they catch fire, and her head bursts into flames. A severed crystal skull re-attaches itself to a skeleton; several crystal skulls' eye holes begin to smoke while people watch.
A man and a young man walk through a sanatorium where people in dark cells cry out hysterically and reach for them as they pass by.
A woman pokes a knife into a rubber case, opens a hole in it and reveals a skeleton (we see long skeletal fingers). A man cuts open a cloth wrapping on a dead body, we see the well-preserved face of a dead man, and then the face decays almost instantly from being exposed to air (we see the nose disintegrate, and the skin discolors and turns to dust). A man pulls a gilded mask off a body revealing a decayed corpse (it's gray and shriveled). A woman uncovers a corpse and opens a large slit in the back of its head (it is empty).
Many huge ants swarm an injured man, they crawl into his mouth when he screams, and they take him away and into their mound (only his boots remain outside); many huge ants swarm another injured man. A large ant crawls up a woman's leg (she squishes it between her knees and we see a spurt of goo). A large ant bites a woman on the hand (she squishes it and we see a spurt of goo). Many scorpions crawl onto a young man who has fallen to the ground of a crypt, one scorpion bites his hand, and the young man yells but is OK. A man and a woman fall into quicksand and begin to sink; a young man throws a huge snake at them to be used as a rope to pull them out, but the man is scared of the snake (he eventually holds onto it). Four people are trapped in a deep hole, water floods toward them filling the hole and pushing them out the top and onto the ground.
A man is tackled by another man, they crash through a glass ceiling panel and into a building, they fight, a heavy chain is wrapped around the throat of one of the men and he is held off the ground while being punched by the other man. Two men fight with many punches and throws and one strikes the other with a tree branch (we see his bloody mouth).  A young man punches another young man in a soda shop, many other people in the shop begin fighting and it becomes a brawl. A young man punches a guard in the face and four people run away.
A young man and a man on a motorcycle are chased by men in a car, the man on the motorcycle is pulled into the car, he fights, then climbs back onto the motorcycle, they drive through narrow roads and passageways and across pedestrian areas and through a crowd of protestors, they drive into a library and the motorcycle falls over and slides under reading tables (no one is injured). Two cars speed along a narrow road and one tries to push the other over the edge. An amphibious car drives over a cliff, it lands on a tree and is gently placed into a river below; the tree flings back up and strikes several people, who are climbing down, causing them to fall. A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.

INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
