SEX/NUDITY 6 - Two couples have sex and we see the women's legs in the air and the men thrusting; they are otherwise covered by blankets. A man masturbates while watching a pornographic movie; we hear sounds and moaning from the TV and see his hand moving rhythmically in his pants. We see a woman sleeping in bed partly covered by a sheet; her bare breast, bare hip and leg are exposed. A man grabs a woman's clothed breast, and a woman rubs herself on a man's lap. A man and woman kiss, and a man and woman nearly kiss. Two women proposition two men and make sexual remarks. A man imagines a woman climbing on top of him and kissing him (she wears a top which reveals cleavage), and he also imagines a woman dancing seductively for him (she wears a mini-skirt and a short top which reveals her abdomen and cleavage). Men and women dance suggestively at a party. Two prostitutes wear very tight-fitting outfits and when they bend over we see part of one of their buttocks. A woman wears a tight-fitting, low-cut dress which reveals cleavage. A man and woman are shown in bed together; he's in his underwear and she wears a tank T-shirt. There's a poster of a woman in a bikini, squatting down with her legs apart. We see a couple of bare-chested men on TV. We see a couple of dogs having sex.

VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A man falls asleep while smoking, his hair catches on fire, he bursts into flames, jumps out a window and lands hard on the street below still burning (we see this scene again only this time he sits up with a charred face and hands and is then torn apart when he's hit by a bus). A man swings a hatchet and cuts a man's shirt. A huge number of birds explode (after eating a drug) spraying an office with goo and feathers. Three men dig up a grave, pull out the remains of a mummified body, drag it back to their room, begin cutting off pieces, put a hand in a blender and try to grind it up, and a man tries to smoke a finger. We hear a man running into a wall and see some blood on his head. A man screws a bolt attached to a man's head-and-neck brace and the man screams in pain. A man punches a man in the stomach and he falls down to the ground; he punches another in the face and he flies into a car windshield cracking it. A man slaps two women in the face, a man punches another man in the face, a man punches a man in the head and a fight breaks out with people being tossed around, punching and shoving, and a man slaps men in the face a few times. Two men sling racial slurs at each other in a few different scenes. Two men ogle a woman as she walks by and they drive their car into a sign. A woman hits her son on the head with a newspaper and yells at him, and a woman slaps a man in the face. A classroom full of people slap themselves in the face. A bike is run over a few times by a truck and a refrigerator is thrown through a window. Some gross-out scenes: a man picks up a dripping condom, a man vomits a lot, a man vomits and we hear it but don't see anything, a man talks with his mouth full of Cheetos (we see it in extreme close-up), a man wears a string of stinky eggs around his neck, a man drinks toilet water from a cup, we hear a man flatulate a couple of times. A man calls the police claiming to have seen a bomb. Three men smoke marijuana for an extended period of time and one passes out on the floor, two men smoke marijuana and cough violently.

[profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Drug dealing, ethnic diversity, celibacy, virginity, respect, pimps, prostitution, classism, racism, ghosts.

MESSAGE - Don't squander your abilities.

(Note: People are shown smoking marijuana and presumably other substances throughout the movie. A man drinks alcohol. A young man sells drugs through an opening in his apartment door. We find out later that he makes his own herbal medications, and that's what he's selling.)

Our Ratings Explained

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.

INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
