ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Third sequel in the series: a new kid actor plays a boy
left home alone with chicken pox who must battle some bad guys.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Sexual innuendo. Posters of scantily clad women and naked
women (but no actual nudity seen).
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Mainly played for laughs: a remote control car smacks
someone in the face, a man is hit by a car and lands on the windshield, men run into each
other, a woman is dragged by a dog through some bushes, a couple of men are shocked
(electrocuted), falls (usually pretty far) and stumbles, chases. Heavy objects fall on
people in many scenes (a barbell, a chest, flower pots, lawn mower, planks). Men are hit
in the crotch a couple of times. Threatening with guns. Small explosions.
PROFANITY 2 - A few mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Children home alone, thieves, defending your home.
MESSAGE - Kids can be smarter than adults.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
