"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

High Art | 1998 | R | - 7.1.8

Ally Sheedy is a heroin-addicted photographer who left the art world ten years ago and is convinced by a young magazine editor to begin showing her work again. Also with Radha Mitchell, Patricia Clarkson, Bill Sage, Gabriel Mann, David Thornton, Anh Duong and Tammy Grimes.

SEX/NUDITY 7 - Sexual innuendo. Lots of passionate kissing, mostly between women. A man and woman appear to have sex with lots movement and sound; the woman remains clothed and we only see the man's bare chest. A woman fondles another woman's clothed breasts, then opens her shirt and reveals her bra; the woman then unbuttons the other's pants (we see a bit of her underwear) and begins kissing her stomach. In two scenes, we see a woman's bare breast as another woman kisses it. A naked woman is covered with a sheet (but we see her bare back) and another woman, shirtless but covered, lies on top of her; we later see photographs of this scene. A woman fondles another woman's breasts underneath her shirt; we also see photographs of this scene. We see a small part of a woman's bare buttocks as she's lying on her stomach in a bathtub, and also the side of a woman's bare buttocks and thigh while she's sitting on a toilet. Many women wear cleavage-revealing tops, and several scenes show scantily clad women.

VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A few people shoot up, but no blood is seen.

LANGUAGE 8 - Nearly 40 F-words, several scatological references, one anatomical reference and one mild obscenity.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Drug addiction, lesbianism, betrayal, disillusionment, ambition, fame, falling in love.

MESSAGE - Sometimes there's nothing you can do to help a person abandon his or her self-destructive lifestyle.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
