Dustin Hoffman becomes a reluctant hero when he saves Geena
Davis, but Andy Garcia takes the credit.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - A couple of romantic kisses between Davis and Garcia, but
nothing more happens. Davis shows some cleavage in a low cut evening gown.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - The plane crash is pretty scary. People are shown bloody
and bruised. There is also a scene in a prison where threats of bodily injury are bantered
about, and there's some pushing and shoving. A suicide by jumping off a tall building;
nothing is shown.
PROFANITY 4 - The F-word is uttered a few times, other less intense
profanities are also used, but not frequently. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Honesty. Knowing what is really important in life: Your
family.
MESSAGE - Being honest is the best way to go, but sometimes a white lie can
be more helpful to the overall good. You may not think you could ever be a hero, but
everyone could when the chips are down. don't judge by appearances.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
