Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Jamie Foxx plays a man whose girlfriend (Nia
Long) leaves him stranded at a Texas gas station where he's held hostage by a bumbling
robber. Also with Barry Corbin, Eduardo Yáñez, John Cullum, Jake Busey, Michael Shamus
Wiles, Sarah Paulson, Sam Gifaldi, Billy Morton and Julie Hagerty. [1:29]
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Several instances of sexual innuendo and a kiss. We see lots
of condoms fall out of a woman's purse. Men stare at a clothed woman who's sitting in a
small inflatable pool and spraying water on her chest and neck. Four men are forced to
strip down to their underpants; we also see another man in his underpants. We see a couple
of women in cleavage- and midriff-revealing tops.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Mostly played for laughs. A bullet grazes a man's neck (we
see a little blood on his fingers and neck). A man who's being shot at dives into a rack
of potato chips, gets a bloody cut on his cheek, and says he's been shot; the
"bullet" is extracted from his cheek (it turns out to be a potato chip) and we
also see him holding a bloody chip that was apparently extracted from his buttocks. A man
grabs another and holds a gun to his head twice, a woman slaps a man's hand, a boy hits a
man's crotch, a boy lightly punches a man's arm, a man lightly slaps another's forehead, a
boy swings his fists at a man (the man pushes the boy away by his forehead to avoid being
hit), a man hits his head on an open car hood, a man pushes a boy to the ground when he
thinks he hears a gun shot, a man and woman fall out of their chairs when they hear
gunfire, and a skunk sprays a man and causes him to fall through some rafters and shoot
his gun. Lots of threatening with guns throughout the movie; also, people are shot at
several times, and in one scene many police officers and other people shoot into a
convenience store, breaking many of its windows and hitting some items inside. Some verbal
threatening and some reckless driving. A man has a bandage over his facial cut and some
blood on his shirt throughout most of the movie. We see a corpse's shoe and pant leg. A
woman puts some chewing tobacco in her mouth, then spits it out in a man's hat. A woman
holds her clothed buttocks and it's implied she needs to use the bathroom.

PROFANITY 5 - About 6 F-word derivations, an obscene finger and arm gesture,
lots of anatomical references, many scatological references, lots of mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
