Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Al Pacino is a cop and Robert De Niro is a career criminal
who eludes him in this action flick. Also with Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore, Diane
Venora, Amy Brenneman, Ashley Judd, Mykelti Williamson, Wes Studi, Ted Levine, Dennis
Haysbert, William Fichtner, Natalie Portman and Tom Noonan. [2:44]
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Some sexual innuendo. Some passionate kissing. A man and
woman kiss and slide on top of each other in bed; she's wearing a slip and we see his bare
chest. A man leaves a bed obviously nude (although nothing is seen) and we see a sleeping
woman lying there (her bare shoulders are visible). A prostitute is shown in a tight bra
and underpants.
VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - A number of people are shot many times causing their
bodies to jerk and blood to splatter; their bodies are seen later lying in pools of blood.
An extended shootout has people running and yelling; many people are shot and some bloody
wounds are seen. A man is shot at close range. A woman lies in a tub of blood with deep,
bloody cuts on her legs and arms and a woman's corpse is shown with a bruised and bloody
face. A man with a bloody, beaten face dies in a pool of blood. A few yelling scenes and
people are beaten up a few times. A car crash with an explosion. A man causes a panic in a
hotel by tripping the fire alarm.

PROFANITY 10 - 40 + F-words, many scatological references, a couple of
anatomical references and many mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Robbery and career criminals, police work, marital
difficulties, respect and honor.
MESSAGE - You must do what is honorable according to your own ethical code
without letting love and friendship get in your way.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
