Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Landmark rock n' roll comedy about a day in the life of the
Beatles at the height of their popularity in 1963: The four Liverpool lads are chased by
screaming girls, go in and out of trains, chase Paul McCartney's grandfather, do a TV
show, and also sing a few songs. With John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo
Starr, Wilfrid Brambell, Norman Rossington, John Junkin, Victor Spinetti, Anna Quayle,
Deryck Guyler, Richard Vernon, Edward Malin, Robin Ray, Lionel Blair and Alison Seebohm. [1:25]
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Sexual innuendo, some flirting and a little cleavage. John
Lennon takes a bath and we see an old man in his skivvies.
VIOLENCE/GORE 0 - None. Screaming teenagers and cops chase the Beatles a few
times, but they seem to mean well.
the review continues below...
PROFANITY 1 - A few insults and a couple of very mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Crazed fans, the '60s, people over 30, truancy.
MESSAGE - The Beatles were mischievous, irreverent, and full of joy.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
