Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
James Bond is back to make the world safe for democracy,
but now he's played by Pierce Brosnan.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - The naked Bond girls cavort in the opening credits and we see
vague, shadowy breasts and buttocks. Some passionate kissing, sexual innuendo. A woman is
shown on top of a man and they are kissing roughly; she is moaning and scratching him and
then he gets on top of her and thrusts a couple of times before he dies. A man and woman
kiss and roll around and get on top of each other but don't have sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Many explosions with people running around while on fire.
Objects crush people who die as a result. A lot of gun waving, reckless driving complete
with car crashes and pedestrian strikes, fistfights with kicking and pummeling resulting
in bloody faces, noses and lips. A man falls from a great height landing with a thwack, a
woman is blown into a tree and strangled by a helicopter. Many people are shot and killed
but little blood is seen.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
