Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A "Rocky" wannabe, about yet another "Great
White Hope," in this case an Irish teenager (James Marshall) with a lethal punch, who
joins an illicit boxing circuit.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - There's only one sexy scene, where the hero is in bed with
his girlfriend, presumably after they've made love; both are covered with blankets up to
their necks, and nothing is shown.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Since this is a boxing movie, there are oodles of fights
resulting in oodles of bloody noses, blackened eyes and, cuts and bruises. There's one
knife fight, (no one's cut) and a hospital scene where one fighter is in a coma.

PROFANITY 4 - Moderate amount of four letter words and assorted foul
language. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - While not explicit, the scene where the hero is in bed with
his girlfriend may provoke discussion of pre-marital sex.
MESSAGE - The explicit message is that education is good, and boxing is not;
it's delivered by a teacher, and the hero's girlfriend. However, since the hero ends up
punching out a couple of bad guys, the implicit message is that violence can be justified
when the hero is righteous.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
