ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Horror flick about a serial killer gone cellular.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - One cleavage shot of a buxom young babysitter and one scene
of a teenager playing a pornographic computer game.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Most of the violence happens under the guise of computer
animation. However, the gore looks real: An entire family is shown sitting dead and bloody
on their couch. A man dies after his microwave oven sends electricity buzzing through his
kitchen, and his skin starts bubbling, blood oozes from his head and he literally begins
to boil. The family dog is found floating dead in a pool. A man is torched by a hand drier
in a restroom. A dishwasher leaks onto a kitchen floor where the sudsy water meets with a
loose wire and a teenage girl is electrocuted; she's seen flailing on the floor.
PROFANITY 3 - Some scatological and anatomical language. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Violence, divorce, dysfunctional families.
MESSAGE - The computer age has left us with very little control over much of
our lives. There's no telling how far the power and reach of computers might go in the
near future.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
