Wes Studi stars as the quintessential hero in this western
with a Native American viewpoint.
SEX/NUDITY 0 - None.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Approximately eight battles between soldiers and Native
Americans are depicted, and each scene is rather lengthy with a great deal of
head-whacking, falling down dead and shooting; yet these scenes are relatively bloodless.
A Native American is shot and his bloody shoulder is shown as he lies dead; a stagecoach
is shown containing three bloody-faced corpses; a few people are seen with bloody chests
from gunshot wounds; and a village of dead people with bloody scalps.
PROFANITY 1 - About four mild profanities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Betrayal, war, the military life, Native American traditions.
MESSAGE - Sometimes you must fight for what is yours; whites wrongfully
deprived Native Americans of their land.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
