ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline find love in Paris in this
romantic comedy.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Several passionate kissing scenes. A poster of a naked woman
is seen in the background. A couple of scenes in shadow where a man and woman are shown in
bed together; we see them hugging and kissing passionately. Some cleavage and a beach
scene with scantily clad women and men. A man is shown in shadows in boxer shorts. A great
deal of talk about sex, but sometimes the talk is basically innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A woman gets hysterical and falls out of a plane door (the
plane is a prop). A man threatens another man and holds him up by the neck. A man slaps a
woman across the face to wake her up after she's fainted. Two men get into a fight with
pummeling and hitting and falling down.
PROFANITY 5 - Two F-words, six scatological terms, a few milder obscenities,
and some sexual references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Commitment, fear of flying, gambling, falling in love.
MESSAGE - Security doesn't equal true love.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
