A parody of rap conventions, this release follows the
career of a rap group, NWH (Niggaz With Hats), much as "This Is Spinal Tap"
documented the ups and downs of a rock group.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - There is no nudity, but little is left to the imagination in
many of the band's videos (basically the same stuff shown everyday on MTV).
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Comic-book-style violence: one of the group's managers
gets hit by a maniacally ricocheting bullet he shoots himself in order to end a fight. One
of the band members has a fixation on stockpiling guns as he prepares for some type of
paranoid survival situation.
PROFANITY 10 - F-words galore and other profanities, from the opening
credits to the end, nonstop. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The rap culture.
MESSAGE - Sex and violence sells.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
