ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Patrick Swayze stars as a two-bit hood who takes his two
kids out of a brutal home for juveniles and runs away.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - No nudity (except for Swayze's chest). Some talk of sex and
references to child sexual abuse.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - There's a lot of gun waving (Swayze seems to keep a gun on
him at all times, and displays it throughout the movie), but there are few shooting
scenes. A man is killed in a violent confrontation with mobsters. Cops shoot at the main
characters a few times. There are lots of car crashes, but without serious injuries.
PROFANITY 2 - Some scatological language and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Theft, drug and alcohol abuse, child abuse (both physical and
sexual), child abandonment.
MESSAGE - Even bad guys can learn to change, if they are loved.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
