ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

A man hires thugs to kidnap his wife in order to get ransom
money from his wealthy father-in-law; but things go horribly wrong.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - A man has sex with prostitutes in two scenes. As one
prostitute flees down a hallway we glimpse naked buttocks.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A handful of deaths by bullets. We see blood a couple of
times (once a gush of blood from a pointblank head shot). We see a corpse's bloody face a
couple of times, a woman tries to flee her kidnappers and falls down steps, a man is shot
in the jaw (the result is a great deal of blood), a man is hit with an ax and then fed
into a wood chipper (we see sprays of blood and his foot sticking out).
PROFANITY 8 - 25+ F-words, some scatological references and a handful of
mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - In-laws, greed, kidnapping and murder.
MESSAGE - Greed can lead to horrible consequences.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
