ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

A boy, a dog, a loving family, an adventure and a little
innocent romance.
SEX/NUDITY 0 - One very chaste kiss between a teenage boy and girl.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Some scenes may be scary for small children including a
violent storm at sea which leaves characters shipwrecked, an unsuccessful wolf attack (no
blood), a bobcat feeding on its kill (very little blood) and one heart-grabbing scene in
which a dog falls from a log bridge into a deep ravine. It is also implied that a
character has killed and eaten a mouse (for survival).
PROFANITY 1 - One mild profanity. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Mother nature, a young person surviving on his/her own.
MESSAGE - Love provides a family in crisis with strength; respect each other
and the natural world.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
