ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

A look back at the glory days of the New York
disco Studio 54. Starring Mike Myers, Ryan Phillippe, Salma Hayek, Neve Campbell, Sela
Ward, Breckin Meyer, Sherry Stringfield, Heather Matarazzo and
Ellen Albertini Dow.
SEX/NUDITY 6 - Lots of sexual innuendo (including references to homosexuality and
oral sex) and passionate kissing. We see a topless woman straddling a clothed man, moving
her hips against him. A nude couple has intercourse (we see his bare chest, her back and
shoulders, and the tops of her breasts). A man offers to perform oral sex on another man,
and implies that he'll be given a promotion if he accepts (he doesn't go through with it).
A few brief shots of a man lying in bed with different women; it's implied he's had sex
with them. We see a naked man's posterior and a woman's bare breasts. Lots of scantily
clad women and men.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A woman falls down and gets a cut on her forehead and a
bloody nose; she dies a few seconds later, apparently from a drug overdose. A man shoves
another man. A man spits up.
PROFANITY 7 - About 20 F-words, many anatomical and scatological references,
and some insults and mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Drug use and addiction, discos, tax evasion, the '70s,
celebrities, fame, and homosexuality.
MESSAGE - Live it up while you can, because the party's going to be over
someday.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
