ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Kurt Russell and Steven Seagal must do battle high in the
skies as they try to save a planeload of passengers and the free world.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - We see a woman sitting on a countertop
while a clothed man stands in front of her and appears to be
thrusting. The woman is also clothed -- we see her face and legs --
and is crying either out of pleasure or fear (it's not clear if the
act is consensual or not).
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Some fires and explosions, people are threatened with
guns, people are beaten up (resulting in blood a few times ), people are knifed, and many
people are shot by machine guns. Blood is smeared on walls.
PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, some scatological references, some mild
obscenities, some anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Hostages, air travel, terrorism, military force.
MESSAGE - Smarts can sometimes get you better results than force.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
