ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Hugh Grant is a mapmaker in a 1917 Welsh town who deems a
beloved mountain to be a mere hill, until the villagers take matters into their own hands.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - A handful of passionate kisses. A man is shown leaning out of
a window shirtless. Some mild sexual references.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A man hits his head on a rafter a couple times. A man goes
into shock (he twitches and moans and is obviously upset). A man dies of a heart attack:
we see him clutch his heart and fall over.
PROFANITY 1 - A couple of mild obscenities, a few British curses. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Teamwork, rural living, meeting your goal.
MESSAGE - What might seem inconsequential to some people could be very
important to others, and so we should honor their goals and desires even if they are
different from our own.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
