ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Leslie Nielsen plays Dracula in this spoof by
Mel Brooks. Also with Peter MacNicol, Steven Weber, Amy Yasbeck, Lysette Anthony, Harvey
Korman, Mark Blankfield, Megan Cavanagh, Clive Revill and Chuck McCann. [1:28]
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo. People swoon while Dracula is sucking blood
from them (the scenes are rather sexual, but in a comical way). We see some cleavage
revealing outfits.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Dracula-oriented violence, such as biting necks and
sucking blood; when arteries are gushing blood it's gross, but the scenes are mainly
played for laughs. People try to kill a man with stakes, garlic, etc. Slapstick punches
and falls. A man eats bugs.
PROFANITY 3 - A couple of anatomical references, scatological references and
mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Insanity, vampires, sacrifice.
MESSAGE - Even vampires can be funny.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
