Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
An imaginative and somewhat alienated young girl
befriends a retarded man who stops at her mother's hotel en route to a home for the
mentally ill. With Kevin Bacon, Evan Rachel Wood, Mary Stuart Masterson, Cathy Moriarty
and Marian Seldes. [1:38]
SEX/NUDITY 2 - A little sexual innuendo. A couple hugs and kisses each
other. We see a woman pulling her shirt closed and a shirtless man lying in bed in the
background.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - We learn a woman died and later see her overturned car in
a ditch. A girl pushes a woman and a girl and woman slap each other. A woman punches a man
repeatedly and the man pins her to the ground (we later see her arm in a sling).
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
