ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Antonio Banderas is avenging his lover's death in this
sequel to "El Mariachi."
SEX/NUDITY 6 - A couple of sex scenes with the participants interacting in
various positions: a woman is on top of a man moaning; she's in a garter belt and thong
while the man is naked -- but all we see are his chest and shoulders. In another extended
love scene the woman's breasts and buttocks and the man's chest are visible. This scene is
heavily cut and it is hard to see exactly what is happening. There are a few passionate
kisses.
VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - A man cradles a dead woman whose head is in a pool of
blood. A man is shot through the hand (in close-up: the hand explodes in blood). A woman
stitches up a man's arm in bloody close-up (we hear squishy noises as she pokes around in
the wound to retrieve a bullet). A couple of shoot-outs: A man is shot in the head
point-blank and his head explodes, another in the face and half his face is blown away, a
close-up of a man with a bloody bullet hole in his forehead. A man is hit by a car and
dragged under it. A man is stabbed with many flying knives; later he pulls them out
(slowly, with squishy noises and a lot of blood). A child is shot. Some people die with
gushes of blood from their mouths. A rocket launcher and machine gun kill many and cause
explosions.
PROFANITY 8 - 25+ F-words, 20+ scatological references, and many milder
obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Revenge, family, death, murder, love, redemption.
MESSAGE - Revenge is honorable but can destroy you as well as your enemy.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
