Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
Wesley Snipes stars as an old-fashioned bad guy in a future
where all is harmonious, and Sylvester Stallone stars as the old-fashioned cop who must
catch him.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - One virtual reality sex scene, in which the participants
never touch. They contribute sounds of arousal, and we see nanosecond flashes of a woman's
breasts. A discussion takes place about the exchange of bodily fluids during sex, and the
diseases that can be transmitted by such acts. Two kisses. There is also a very quick shot
of a nude woman on a picture screen. We also see several nude males. There are no clear
shots of genitals, but we do see derrieres. And, of course, Stallone takes his shirt off a
few times.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - There are lots of fire fights, fist fights and explosions,
with obvious results, and some blood and gore. Snipes removes the eye of a victim and
carries it around on the end of a pen. Several buildings blow up. A man is shot and then
tossed into a fireplace. A man is picked up and squeezed by a mechanical arm, while
another man shoots at him. A man is instantly frozen and then his head is knocked off.

PROFANITY 6 - A couple of dozen F-words and its permutations as well as
scatological terms, anatomical references and profane name calling. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The future, utopias and totalitarianism, behavior
modification, alternatives to the present penal system, solutions to today's social ills.
MESSAGE - Total peace and harmony may sound good, but they stifle human
creativity. In order to solve a problem, sometimes violence is the only way.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
