ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Larry Fishburne plays a cop who goes undercover in the Los
Angeles drug trafficking scene with an assignment to build a life as a druglord, in the
aim of getting to, and eliminating, the biggest names of the country's drug trade.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - Carefully edited sex takes place in one scene. Nudity
carefully cropped out. There is a brief bit of near-nudity with a dancer -- an extra -- in
another scene.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Violence is scattered liberally throughout this film about
organized crime. Blood is not in scarce supply.
PROFANITY 5 - The F-word pops up regularly. A smattering of other colorful
language. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Drug usage is a main theme and is shown throughout. The link
between drug use and organized crime is displayed in careful detail.
MESSAGE - The evils of drug use.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
