Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A volcano explodes as geologist Pierce Brosnan tries to
save mayor Linda Hamilton and family.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Sexual innuendo, kissing. A couple skinny dip but no nudity
is seen. Bare buttocks of two corpses briefly seen.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Chases, falls, many scenes of people trying to outrun the
volcano. Rioting, fires and explosions. A volcanic rock falls on a woman's head killing
her and resulting in blood on her head and face. Dead, bloody squirrels and two burned,
dead bodies with bloody, patchy burns. A bone sticks out of a bloody arm, many bloody
faces. A man falls partway down a hill and is covered in rocks resulting in a bloody face
and broken leg, a woman wades through acid water and later we see blood on her face and
neck and bloody, patchy burns on her legs. Rocks and avalanches hit and nearly bury
people, a man with some blood on his temple falls into raging water and drowns. Reckless
driving.

PROFANITY 5 - One mumbled F-word, some mild obscenities, a few scatological
references, a couple of anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
